Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, involving the inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot and connects to your heel (plantar fascia).
Sufferers likely experience a sharp, stabbing pain in the heel, typically during the first steps or movements. Over time, the pain normally decreases, but may return after long periods of standing or upon first standing up.
Treatment of plantar fasciitis is dependent on the severity of the symptoms. Treatment, such as daily exercises, physical therapy, or custom orthotics may correct the issue and provide relief from pain. More severe cases may require additional treatment, such as shock wave therapy, steroid injections, or possible surgery.
